General Terms

Classic Custom Creators of Valhalla (C3V) A customs project with the goal of creating fun, reliable, playtested Heroscape customs that are designed to work seamlessly with all other C3V and SoV customs, as well as official Heroscape units. Heroscapers Introduction

Delta Points An alternative point system designed to balance figures (i.e. increase cost of good units and decrease cost of bad units). There are independent delta points for Classic Scape and VC-inclusive Scape. See the main delta thread for more information.

Soldiers of Valhalla (SoV) Public submission/nomination component of VC. SoV Figures

Standard Points The point values printed on the cards.

Valhalla Customs (VC) The official" customs. Technically the C3V + SoV. Community developed and thoroughly tested."

Formats

X Points (Standard / Delta) Your army cannot contain more than X points (either in Standard or Delta points, as specified).

X Figures If your army contains more than X figures, you must sit however many figures you have > X.

X Hexes If your army contains more than X hexes, you must sit however many hexes you have > X.


{X(+/-)} & Under Only units ranked X and under by power rankings are allowed.

{X} Card Draft Each player brings X cards worth of units as a draft pool. Before each game, combine your cards with your opponent's cards to create 1 draft pool. Players than alternate drafting cards from the merged pool until they reach the pre-set point/figure/hex limits.

{X} Pod Draft Each player brings X different army pods (smaller armies combined to make a full army). Players draft from the combined pool of their pods and opponent's pods. Usually your pods may not have any figure overlap.""

Assassination Prior to the game starting, a specific hero from each army is chosen as the 'target'. Whomever kills the 'target' in their opponent's army first wins the game.

Ban List Your army may not contain any figures listed on the ban list.

Betrayal At the beginning of the game, each player simultaneously and secretly selects some pre-set number of army cards to steal from their opponent (making them part of their army for that game).

Bring-2 Each player brings 2 separate (and non-overlapping) armies within the given point/figure/hex restraints. Before each game, follow the pre-determined process to determine which army of the four (your two and your opponent's two) you will play.

Capture the Flag An alternative win condition exists involving capturing something denoted as your 'flag'.

Chaos of Battle Rather than using a traditional Start Zone, players alternate placing one card's worth of figures from their opponent's army on any empty hexes not engaged with their figures, frequently with a restriction that all figures from that same card must be placed near each other.

Cheese A general term for any Bring-1 event using standard pricing where no units are banned and everyone is under the implicit assumption the goal is to make the best possible army using the best figures.""

Commons Only Your army may not contain any unique or uncommon figures.

Control Points Some number of points are assigned at the conclusion of each round for having figures on or near certain pre-determined hexes on the map. The first player to reach the given point total for the event (and have more points than their opponent) wins the game. You can also win the game by destroying all of your opponent's figures.

Cut the Cake One player chooses which armies will be played. The other player chooses their army from those 2 armies.

Draft Players draft their armies from a pool of cards, either pre-set or created by merging pools the players brought.

Dungeon Defender At the start of the game, each player will have a destructible object placed in their start zone. The destructible object is given a defense value and a life value. If you destroy your opponent's destructible object, you win the game.

Escape Figures can 'escape' the map via their opponent's start zone. At the end of the game, the player with the most 'escaped' points wins.

Fog of War All attacks and special powers that require line of sight or clear sight may be reduced by the specific rules of the format.

General Wars Any format where your entire army must come from a single general, some pre-determined pair of generals, or some other limiting rule.

Max {X} Copies - Heroes Your army may not include more than X copies of each common or uncommon hero army card in your army.

Max {X} Copies - Squads Your army may not include more than X copies of each common squad army card in your army.

Monster Mash Your army must contain some pre-determined amount of points worth of Large & Huge figures.

Partial Commons Your army may include fractional quantities of common squads. Generally there is a minimum of 1 full copy of each common squad.

Rainbow Wars Any format where your army must contain some minimum number of points (i.e. 50) from at least X different generals (frequently 4-5).

Reinforcements At some point during the tournament (frequently when moving from Swiss to a top-cut), a pre-set (or variable) number of points/figures/hexes are added to the allowed army total and additional figure(s) may be added to your army, up to the new maximums.

Restricted List Your army may not contain more than 1 card (multiple copies of a common are allowed) from the restricted list.

Reverse Draft There is a bidding process to bid down the stronger of the two armies. The weaker army is then played in full.

Reverse the Whip Each player brings 1 army. In some rounds, you play the army you brought and your opponent plays the army they brought. In others, you play the army your opponent brought, and they play the army you brought. Commonly these rounds alternate, though sometimes all preliminary rounds will play one way with elimination rounds playing the reverse. Abbreviated RtW.

Rule of {X} You may not field more than X of any given figure. If your army contains more than X of a figure, you must remove the extra figure(s) from your army before the game.

Sideboards Each player brings a pool of figures with a pre-determined point total. Before each round, and after seeing your opponent's pool, you secretly construct your army (for a pre-determined point total less than the point total of the overall pool) and reveal armies simultaneously.

Singleton You may only include one copy of any given army card in your army (including commons and uncommons).

Squads Only Your army may not contain any hero figures.

Treasure Quest There will be treasure glyphs. There is an alternative win condition involving controlling some number of the treasure glyphs.

Uniques Only Your army may not contain any common figures.

YxZ (i.e. 4x400) Each player brings Y different armies, usually with no overlapping figures. In each round of the event, you play a different one of the armies you brought.
